We divide the landscape and exclude nature from our day-to-day existence; we barely notice the ‘thud’ when we literally come into contact with animals.
My work takes that ‘thud’ as its starting point…
Tender is a meditation upon life, death and our increasingly detached relationship to nature. There is a duality in the title; on the one hand it is about a loving act, on the other hand it is about something being sore to touch.
The work is made slowly, gathering animals by cycling country roads, using a 10×8″ view camera and producing life-size analogue handprints.
