Ji Zhou

The Map

Ji Zhou’s oeuvre explores fragmented and whole images, comprised of images of objects and installations that are not what they always appear to be. In Ji’s series “Maps,” he explores illusory landscapes created by mankind: he sculpts mountains set on a desert plain or in the middle of the sea in his carefully placed installations before photographing the compositions. In this, the artist intends to form an absurd contradiction, where the beautiful appearance conflicts with the futile and artificial construction. Through this illustration of the world, Ji Zhou constructs an understanding of the world around us.
