Yolanda del Amo

Archipelago

My large-format images honor the tradition of staged photography while addressing a timely topic: relationships in contemporary society. The tension between our everyday reality and our inner reality, and how we live with ourselves and with others, are the driving forces in my work. I use photographic composition to illuminate the influences that shape us as individuals and as social beings and raise questions about identity, intimacy, and isolation.
Using silence as a platform, Archipelago (2004-2011) questions within a photographic composition the forces that make people connect or disconnect. The relationship between the portrayed figures defines itself through the setting that conversely becomes a psychological extension of the characters.
