At the height of Margaret Thatcher's overhaul of the British economy, employment and wages were down while taxes and prices went up. As the cost of drink, cigarettes, and paper goods rocketed, British citizens found it more economical to take a quick trip over to France in order to stockpile such items. Parr documented the ferry trips and the greed-fuelled shopping sprees in French hypermarkets. In One Day Trip, a text by Robert Chesshyre accompanies 25 colour photos.
