John Myers

The Ten Televisions, 1973

The Ten Televisions, 1973 and the Substations, 1974 developed the notion of 'looking at the overlooked'. In the series of television photographs the flickering cathode images are replaced by the reflections in a dead screen. The TV becomes just another object in a still life.

John Myers was born in 1944 and studied Fine Art at Newcastle University under Richard Hamilton.

He exhibited at Serpentine 73 in London and in the same year was awarded the first Arts Council publishing award to produce Middle England, (1974). In 1975 he was included in British Image 1 (Arts Council of Great Britain).

His portraits, Boring photographs, televisions, sub stations and photographs of houses from 1972 – 1979 were exhibited at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham in 2011-12 and at Dublin Gallery of Photography in 2014. The World is Not Beautiful was exhibited at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield 2016/17; Luton, 2017 and Wolverhampton Art Gallery, 2018.

Myers will be exhibiting The End of Manufacturing at Foto/Industria, Bologna in October/November, 2017.
