My Brother’s War

It took me twenty-five years to finally come to terms with my brother, Gary’s, suicide after he returned home from serving in the American war in Viet Nam. Much of Gary’s life and death still remains a mystery. Using his letters and photographs and by calling all of the names on his list of army buddies, I located some of them nearly 30 years later.

Twice I traveled to Viet Nam to see what might remain of the landscape that framed his mental world of flights back and forth to the front lines. Through the use of my camera, I share my discoveries and in the process, finally grieve, accept, and slowly come to understand the brother I never really knew.
