According to all the schools of thought that deny division into classes - both the pop cult model of the '60s and the business model of the '80s - England is a very static society, with a firmly defined ruling class and a narrow idea of what is acceptable. Anyone who for any reason remains out is considered marginal. As, with any minority group, if you put them together you get a majority: pop - the marginal industry by definition - is a place where many of these minorities, dreamers and misfits from all social classes, come together to transform, if not the world, at least your own world.
