/03 The Colour of Memory

Nuits de l’est

Half night time : an irreconciable distance between the gaze and its object. Things appear and disappear through a deep silence. Full of strangeness, the night is confused by the curiosity of a urban staged light. Like a museum, the city is made of remembrances, time stretchs, we are in an extended present where memories, feelings and objects mix themselves. Bodies are missing (they mostly are representation of it), yet a ghostlike presence, can be felt. The light reconciles the inside and the outside and leads our viewing throughout the wander downtown, where sadness and loneliness can be felt. These images are extracted from a book entitled “Nuits de l’est”, and have been take over cities of eastern europe (Estonia, Ukraine, Bulgaria…).
