Talat Noi

Talat Noi is the name of a neighborhood, in south Chinatown of Bangkok, near Chao Phraya river. Formerly home of blacksmiths, steel tools producers. After Second World War blacksmiths had to adapt and become mechanics. Actually the place is a labyrinth of alleys full of garages and spare parts warehouses.

The quiet streets, despite the incessant motorbikes, so green, the people so kind, the traditional atmosphere, mixed with the machinery parts piled up everywhere, covered with black grease, seemed a beauty to me. The little domestic sanctuaries, surrounded by mountains of greasy metal. A good contrast, on the other hand, almost a tiny methapor of what’s Bangkok.
