My work focuses on the role that images in general and photographs in particular play in shaping perception and defining self and other, using nature as subject matter and a means to visualize these processes. The work reflects on the medium of photography with its inherent apparent dependence on reality and suggestion of immediacy and authenticity. Through creating and photographing sets of landscapes I play with the viewers’ perception. The entire work process including the final image is analogue to emphasize the impression of authenticity, encouraging the suspension of disbelieve based on the initial emotional response to the large sized images. In the series Forces photographs of nature taken in Patagonia, the USA and Switzerland stand next to photographs based on sets I built. The viewers’ gradual realization that some of the photographs are not of the expected reality, creates doubt in all images and consequently the viewers’ own perception.
